Belated Happy New Year! Here’s to a Year of Self Care

Hi there,

Let’s talk Self Care. January is always a quiet month business-wise for me as people re-group after Christmas. I took this time to set myself up for the year. I needed some Self Care – The active process of making your body and mind a pleasant place to inhabit, by filling your own cup first. This ensures you have enough to give others.

So what did I do in January? For my body I did two rounds of the Modere 5 day drop to look after my gut microbiome and release a few kg post Christmas.; a 5 day Fasting Mimicking ProLon box to stimulate stem cell regeneration and promote longevity; cut down on alcohol and focused on improving my sleep quality; switched coffee to green tea. For my mind, I am listening to My Name is Barbra’ on audible when out walking; delivered a talk on immunity & inflammation to a wonderful group of lady golfers; delivered the business development talk at my Athena Group on ‘Are you fit for your purpose’; attended a webinar on mycotoxins and did a couple of expert slots on the radio. And for fun, we booked our wedding reception for early October this year!! Very exciting.

We can mistake Self Care for being Selfish. It is the opposite as the above definition beautifully explains.

Self Care Ideas

Here are some options you might look at incorporating. You don’t have to do them all at once. 1 or 2 new habits a month is great! There are 11 so one to add in each month of 2024.


Move your body more. E.g. Brisk Walking for 30 mins, 5 times a week. Whatever exercise you enjoy is good exercise.
Menu plan Monday to Friday and make extra to have healthy leftovers for lunch.
Explore intermittent fasting by having breakfast an hour later each week. A 13 hour fast is a great start.
Follow my 5 day Gut Cleanse programme. I do this once or twice a month.
Reduce number of caffeinated drinks and switch to green tea as it helps lower the glycaemic load of foods.
Finish a shower with a 30 second cold burst on face and chest. It gets easier!


Do something creative that you love: painting, colouring, writing, cooking, gardening.
Read or listen to a book or podcast.
Meet with friends you’ve not seen in a while.
Get outside early on sunny days and look at nature without sunglasses (early morning only)
Practice 478 breathing to calm your mind.
